P22081

General practitioners and other primary healthcare professionals are the first line of defense against the growing global pain endemic; approximately 1 in 10 of their consultations involve patients with some type of pain, and progressively chronic pain. A collaborative approach to acute and chronic pain is vital to improve the lives of patients, many of whose pain is often neglected and leads to increased morbidity and decreased quality of life. Many front-line healthcare professionals focus on the disease progression, which may have brought the patient to seek a consultation, while pain is considered of secondary importance. Given the considerable demands on primary care clinicians and other front-line healthcare professional across disciplines, it is essential to understand which conditions present most commonly in these settings.

A specialist-designed and -led educational program for front-line practitioners across disciplines may result in a 25% improvement in acute and chronic pain management based on best available evidence. Our symposium will focus on treating acute pain, including flair up and recurring pain, of significance across the globe.
